There is not a day that does not go by where either we have read the dreaded forum posting saying:  "My website has been removed or banned from Google, Yahoo or some other search engine and I don't know why."  Or worst yet "My website has been banned due to illegal Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques, How do  I get listed again?"  If your website has been banned from Google you need to read this link.

There are many mistakes that new webmasters and old web masters make that cause them to get banned or blacklisted from search engines.  Often many new webmasters surf the Internet for the purpose of trying to obtain information on (1) How to get their site listed and (2) How they can increase their search engine position or ranking.  

Folks there is a lot of information on the internet.  Some of it is good, some bad, some old and some new.  Some search engines are changing their Algorithms every month due to a few bad SEO's who are using techniques to try and trick the search engines so that either their clients or their own WebPages position higher in search engine ranking position (SERP).  We can say with almost a certainty that if you are using illegal or worst yet outdated methods for the purpose of achieving higher positioning you will be caught and banned.  

Here is a sample of 10 common mistakes that will get your website or web page banned:

1. Using small or hidden text in your web page's. Hidden text will get you into a lot of trouble. Many webmasters will try to use hidden text (keywords) inside their site. They make the text the same color as the background. The naked eye can't see this text, however, spider will pick this us with is crawls your site.

2. The use of popular keywords such as "sex, mp3, yahoo" in the meta tags when  the subject of your site has nothing to do with those keywords is commonly called keyword stuffing.  This is Spam and this technique is illegal.  Here is a  Free Meta Tag Generator to help you build and maintain meta tags properly.

3. Participating in Link farms. Link farms are pages that consist of links. People sign up and add their link to these pages and then upload these pages to their server and site. These pages have no unique content just links. If you participate in Link farms your site will get banned. A previous article from our site about Link Popularity has been written on this subject.

4. Submitting multiple versions of the exact same page or a similar page for indexing. This method is called Spam. Many web masters try to increase their page count by having similar pages and only changing the title, subject or small word changes. 

5. Using automated software to check where your website's positioning or multiple page submission everyday. Search engines are known to hate this practice. Your IP address is recorded when you submit your site. What you want to do is check with the search engine to see what is their policy on submitting pages. I personally like to hand submit my new pages and only do so once a month. If my pages aren't accepted within 30 days I then resubmit them again and then wait for the next index. 

6. Adding too many keywords on a page is called Spam and will get you banned. Here is an example, if your website contains 400 words and the keyword phrase "website advertising" is repeated 50 times, the search engines will most likely think you are spamming them. Many people fail to realize that the crawling process is automated and the spider can calculate the word density to keyword density in a fraction of a second.

7. Page swapping. This is where you submit a page that is positioned high and after it is indexed you upload a different page with the exact identical name and replace it. A huge mistake. SE's don't like it and anyone who visit's your site from a page that has been swapped will most likely report you for spamming.

8. Creating Spam titles like "Web hosting, hosting, webhosting." This is considered spamming and folks who is going to visit a site with such a tile anyway?

9. Using keywords more than 3 times in your keyword meta tags. Most web masters know this but few ever do a Search Engine Optimization Report to find out if their website is Optimized before, during and after they submit their site and after they have made changes or modifications to their pages. Folks this process is extremely important. Using a keyword more than 5-6 times on a page maybe considered Spam for that keyword you are trying to get listed for. 

10. If you solicit the resources of a SEO company and they want to load your site up with a bunch of gateway pages, doorway pages, bridge pages, or ghost pages whatever they call them...Stay away! Search engines are cracking down on this outdate form of optimizing. You must ensure that the pages you are submitting have the vital content that is related to your subject or theme.
